Santa Fe: Using Reflection in Music Teaching

Using Reflection in Music Teaching

A workshop for music teachers (classroom and private lessons) with Oliver Prezant

If you’re a teacher looking to help your students explore the musical values in the pieces they’re working on, this workshop is for you. During the workshop, you’ll learn a three-level process of reflection that will help you engage your students in exploring fundamentals and compositional concepts in ways that are by turns concrete, relational, imaginative, as well as fun and enjoyable. We’ll look at ways to shift the burden of “teaching” to the students and an approach to creating a culture of interest and involvement among your students. Whole group, small group, individual exercises, and journaling will be a part of the experience. Bring your instrument and a journal or pad to write on, as well as a piece you know well that you can work with during the workshop.

$25 Registration fee,* advance registration is required.
*Free for Santa Fe and Albuquerque Public School teachers.

For more information, email info@oliverprezant.com with your name, instruments you play, and your relationship to teaching.

This workshop is presented by Opus OP Arts and Education Projects.
Thanks to First Presbyterian Church for hosting.
