featuring the artwork of Piper Leigh
with conductor Oliver Prezant and the Opus OP Trio

Artwork by Piper Leigh

SANTA FE, NM: Join us for an in-depth musical exploration of Piper Leigh’s imaginative installation of original dresses: Ancestors, Mothers, Muses. During the program, conductor and arts educator Oliver Prezant will work with the musicians of the Opus OP Trio, Carla Kountoupes, clarinetist Jerry Weimer, and cellist Katie Harlow, to create a musical interpretation based in part on audience impressions of the artwork.

Each dress is a three-dimensional standing figure that speaks through color, texture, and design, as well as through elements that are added: a poem that is sewn into the fabric, a painting or a book hanging inside a sheer skirt, a bird’s nest or a spool of thread sewn into a see-through pocket. The audience will have a chance to explore the installation, looking closely at the dresses for indicators of meaning, substance, and relatedness, and they will have the opportunity to share impressions with one another and the musicians as their thoughts and feelings are turned into musical gestures by Oliver and the trio. By the end of the program, the dresses will become the “musical score,” that Oliver and the trio will use to create an a musical interpretation of the artwork.

General admission is $25; Students with ID: $10. Prices include ticket fees.
