Opera Basics: L’elisir d’amore (The Elixir of Love), by Gaetano Donizetti, libretto by Felice Romani

  • Collected Works Bookstore and Coffehouse 202 Galisteo Street Santa Fe, NM, 87501 United States (map)

The courage to love … In this ever-popular comedy by Donizetti, Nemorino, a timid mechanic, loves Adina, an outgoing schoolteacher. How will he overcome his shyness and win her away from the conceited, overbearing Sergeant Belcore, who is aggressively wooing her? During the presentation we’ll luxuriate in lyrical beauty of the “bel canto” style (“beautiful singing”) and we’ll examine the mechanics of plot in this delicious, melodious comedy. Along the way, you’ll learn about the building blocks of opera.

Admission is free, seating is first come, first served.
